NOTICE TO WAPI MEMBERS & AND THOSE PRACTISING PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATORS WHO ARE THINKING ABOUT JOINING ONE OF THE THREE UK PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS
A lot of “noise” is being made currently in “pushing” for Members of one Association to apply for a Criminal Record Basic Disclosure Certificate for the CRB/SCRB and to include this in their Directory Entry on that Association’s Web Directory.
I wish to be absolutely clear on this particular Issue:
WAPI do not, and have no intention of applying such a condition to our existing Members.
All New Applicants will continue to be asked to disclose any previous criminal convictions, Spent of Otherwise, and the GC will determine whether or not the Application will be accepted.
The fact that a PI may have a previous conviction does not necessarily mean that under the PSIA a Licence Application will be refused! – as the criteria relating to criminality is qualified as to recency and relevance.
IN MY VIEW, IT IS NOT FOR A PROFESSIONAL BODY TO CREATE A SITUATION WHERE THE MEMBERS CAN BE PREJUDICED BY NOT WISHING TO VOLUNTARILY STATE ON THEIR ENTRIES THAT THEY HAVE UNDERGONE A CRB CHECK.
Any WAPI Member who during the course of Membership is convicted of ANY criminal offence, will have their Membership reviewed, and subject to any Appeal outcome, may have their membership cancelled or suspended (pending evaluation by the SIA after implementation commences).
