Transition Announcement:
The ICO will become the Information Commission on September 30, 2026.
Legislative Basis: This change is due to the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.
Governance Structure:
The ICO’s governance structure will change, but its regulatory functions and responsibilities will remain the same.
Board Appointment:
Seven Non-Executive Members were appointed to the new Information Commission Board in July 2026.
Effective Date:
The new roles will be assumed on September 30, 2026.
Prepare for Transition:
Organizations should prepare for the transition to ensure compliance with any new governance requirements.
