Seems like a week doesn’t go by without a PI looking for help in this realm.

Even though I’m a bit-head, I’ve always had the sense that these situations were close to futile. Now I know why thanks to this excellent NY Times article.

If you get to the bottom of the article, there are two tips for real solutions.

  1. Ask Google to not index such results on the person’s name.
  2. Populate the net with positive search results.

More on this: There is a joke among SEO experts. “Where do you hide a dead body? On page 2 of a Google search page.” In other words, if you can create positive SEO, and have those search results dominate at least the first page of Google search results, 99% of people will not bother going to page 2.
