Sleuths protest at stalking ban

From Philip Marlowe to Sam Spade, private investigators are best-known for discreet surveillance and lengthy stakeouts.
But they now fear that proposed legislation to ban stalking may hamper the tools of their trade.
The Irish Professional Private Investigators Association (IPPIA) has raised concerns that proposed legislation to ban stalking could interfere with its work and lead to criminal complaints against private detectives.
Robert Nolan, the chairman of the IPPIA and the owner of his own private detective agency in Dublin, recently contacted the Fine Gael TD Jennifer Carroll MacNeill to raise fears about the planned legislation’s impact on his members’ businesses, according to a recent filing with the Lobbying Register.
The legislation, initially proposed as an amendment to the Offences Against the Person Act
