The Mumbai Crime Branch has busted a CDR (Call Detail Record) racket allegedly run by few private detectives and arrested two people. The police have found that the network of detectives operated from cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Gurgaon and Mangalore as well.

Based on a tip-off, the Unit 5 of the Mumbai Crime Branch sent fake clients to procure CDR of a person and arrested the duo and took them into custody.

Upon interrogation, the duo revealed that they were part of a bigger racket where private detectives and agents bought CDRs from officials working with mobile service providers using fake letters of investigative agencies. These CDRs were then sold to customers for a hefty amount.

The CDR of a person reveals the numbers of calls made and received on their phone, besides the date, time and duration of the calls.

A similar racket was busted by the Thane police in 2018, when several private detectives were arrested. Names of people with Bollywood links had also emerged in the racket. The names of some of the accused who had then been arrested have surfaced during the investigation as well.
