Supporting Victims of Covert Surveillance: Participate in UCL Study
Researchers at UCL Computer Science are seeking practitioners to contribute to a confidential study on how people facing stalking, domestic abuse, and technology-facilitated abuse can be better supported when they suspect covert surveillance.
The team would like to speak with professionals working in TSCM, hidden-device searches, electronic surveillance, tracking technologies, digital forensics or related investigations.
They are particularly interested in practitioners who have encountered domestic abuse, stalking, or other interpersonal surveillance matters, while also welcoming those who can offer a broader sector perspective.
The interview explores how clients reach investigative services; how practitioners assess and manage these cases; how private investigators communicate uncertain or negative findings; risk and safeguarding; professional ethics and standards; technical approaches and equipment; and where current sector practice could be improved.
Participation involves a confidential 60–90 minute online interview. The researchers are notseeking client details, confidential investigative techniques or commercially sensitive information, and neither participants nor their organisations will be named.
The study has received UCL ethical approval, and international perspectives are very welcome.
